OUR 2021 MORNING ROUTINE

OUR 2021 MORNING ROUTINE

If you’re not a self-proclaimed “morning person,” the early hours of the day can be rough. One of our goals for 2021 is to make mornings a happier time; to set a positive tone for the rest of the day. Here are some of our favorite tricks for a morning routine that make everything a little brighter.

Okay, so this first step is technically for the night before—but it’s crucial! Without a decent night’s sleep, even the perfect morning routine can feel like a drag. We know it’s hard to turn off the TV or put down a favorite book, but going to bed on time every night is a huge investment in your future self. Budget 6-8 hours of sleep, and give yourself an hour in the morning for your routine.

Start the day off right with a freshly-made bed. Creating a little bit of order in your space is the perfect way to jump start your sense of accomplishment. This step is extra satisfying if you’ve picked out a bedspread and pillow combo you really love. Plus, every time you walk into your room throughout the rest of the day, your brain will get a rush of happy chemicals from seeing a clean, organized space.

Next, we love to begin the day with something that grounds us. Journaling is a great way to organize your thoughts, practice gratitude, and set some intentions for the day. If your brain isn’t ready for full sentences that early in the morning, it can even be as simple as jotting down a to-do list.

After a long night of not drinking water, your body is begging for hydration! Nothing makes us feel more awake and refreshed than a tall glass of water first thing in the morning. We totally get that it can be a difficult step before you've eaten, so we recommend infusing your water with fresh fruit or tea. And don’t forget to keep drinking water throughout the day as well. We find it helps to have a favorite insulated tumbler or mug to drink out of.

Moving your body in some way each morning will help you feel more awake and ready to take on the day. If you’re not a fan of working out first thing in the morning, get your blood flowing with some gentle stretching or light yoga. If you have kids at home, you could even include them in this step!

Last but not least, take a moment to do something for yourself that helps you feel ready for the day. Maybe it’s as simple as changing out of your pajamas or putting on earrings, or maybe you have time to curl your hair and put on makeup. Taking a few minutes to make yourself feel put together will help you feel refreshed and signal the start of the day to your brain.

Whatever your mornings look like, we hope these tips help make them a little brighter. Tag us @albionfit and show us your favorite morning rituals!
