15 Tips For Living Hygge


Winter, while cold and dark, is the perfect time to reflect and recharge. It’s a season of self care, fresh starts, and coziness. Rather than hibernating the time away, we are challenging ourselves to make the most of it and are taking inspiration from the Danish practice of Hygge.

What is Hygge? (pronounced hyoo·guh)
A quality of coziness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being (regarded as a defining characteristic of Danish culture). So how do you live a Hygge lifestyle? Here are 15 easy ways to live Hygge and to bring the Danish practice into your own life and home.

1. Find a seasonal candle that brings comfort

2. Layer—clothes, the bed, couch

3. Setup a small drink station for delicious, hot drinks, on demand

4. Declutter for 15 minutes

5. Take a daily walk—even in bad weather (bundle up!)

6. Take time to breathe each day

7. Start a puzzle

8. Go ice skating

9. Hang some white lights

10. Plan a getaway or staycation  

11. Disconnect digitally for a day or in the evenings

12. Plan a cozy dinner party

13. Bake a new recipe

14. Start the day with 10 minutes of stretching to loosen and warm up for the day

15. Plan a day of pampering—at home or a salon/spa
